At the outbreak of the Great War, the 2nd Dragoon Guards were stationed at Aldershot. They entered France on 14 October 1914 as part of the 1st Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

Corporal Albert F. Gamble, 2nd Dragoon Guards entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 15 August 1914. Later promoted to Sergeant. Postwar he served as Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant in the Bays.
