Robert Ross was born in Blythswood, Lanarkshire and enlisted at Fort William, Inverness-shire into the 4th Battalion Cameron Highlanders. He served in the 2/4th Battalion until sent to France on 20 July 1916 as a reinforcement to the 1/4th Battalion. He was then drafted into the 7th Battalion on 13 August 1916. Ross was killed in action on the Somme on 13 October 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. With some copied research.
