Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow (L. O’Brien, 1st Batn. 5th Fusrs.) claw tightened, minor edge bruising, very fine £420-460

Lawrence O’Brien was born in the Parish of Capogreen, Co. Waterford. A Varnisher by occupation, he attested for the 5th Regiment in Co. Kings, on 26 February 1839, aged 19 years. With the regiment he served overseas in the Ionian Islands, Gibraltar, Mauritius and in India. Serving at Lucknow, he was slightly wounded in action on 25 September 1857. He was discharged at Fort William on 24 November 1860 being unfit for further service. His papers indicate his name was entered 34 times in the defaulters book and he was once tried by court martial. With copied discharge papers and court martial papers.
