Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp (1736 Pte. G. Gibbons, 4th Bn. Rifle Bde.), very fine £160-180

George Gibbons was born in Hoxton, London, and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade in October 1877, aged 21 years. Embarked for India in January 1879, he witnessed active service with the 4th Battalion in Afghanistan in April-June of the same year (Medal). He later participated in the Waziri Expedition - for which there was no medal - and returned to the U.K. in December 1887. Placed on the Army Reserve in October 1889, he was finally discharged in December 1893.
