John Nisbitt was born in Berwick and enlisted into the Royal Horse Artillery on 14 May 1801, aged 18. He served for 15 years 321 days plus 2 years service for the battle of Waterloo, where he served in Captain Mercer’s ‘G’ Troop. He was discharged at Woolwich on 31 March 1817, being unfit for further service.
