Provenance: Needes Collection, acquired March 1899.

John Riddings was born in Birmingham and enlisted into the Royal Foot Artillery on 1 January 1795. He served in the regiment for 21 years 121 days, plus 2 years service for Waterloo, the last nearly five years as Bombardier, and was discharged from the 3rd Battalion R.A. on 30 April 1816, ‘being judged unfit for service by a Medical Board thro’ a pain in the breast and pensioned at One Shilling & three pence per day’.
