Henry James Le Marchant Baynes, commissioned an Ensign on 14 April 1846; purchased a Lieutenancy in September 1848; promoted to Captain in December 1854. Served in the battles of Alma and Inkermann (severely wounded) and the siege of Sebastopol. Awarded the brevet of Major. Later served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, being present at the operations at Cawnpore, 26 November-6 December 1857; siege of Lucknow and siege of Calpee. With copied research.
