Eight: Able Seaman W. S. Morris, Royal Navy, late Private, King’s Royal Rifle Corps

British War and Victory Medals (47367 Pte., K.R. Rif. William Stephen Morris was born in Margate, Kent on 16 April 1899, the son of William and Annie Morris. Served in the 12th Battalion K.R.R.C. during the Great War. In 1921 he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve as an Ordinary Seaman and was promoted to Able Seaman in December 1922. Served in the Royal Navy from September 1924. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1933 when on the battlecruiser H.M.S. Renown. During the early years of the Second World War he served on the destroyer H.M.S. Vidette. Pensioned to shore in November 1940, he then served as an Able Bodied Pensioner Seaman from November 1940 to September 1945 when he was released from service. Morris died in Margate on 2 October 1976. With copied R.N. and R.F.R. service papers, census extracts, death certificate and other research.
