A Great War C.B.E. group of four awarded to Engineer Captain A. V. Blake, Royal Navy

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, C.B.E. (Military) Commander’s 2nd type neck badge, silver-gilt and enamel; Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (A. V. Blake, Asst. Engr. R.N., H.M.S. “Inflexible”); Khedive’s Star, 1882, unnamed; Ottoman Empire, Order of the Medjidie, 2nd Class set of insignia, neck badge, silver, gold and enamel; breast star, silver, gold and enamel - centre loose on this, good very fine (5) £1000-1200

Albert Valentine Blake served as Assistant Engineer on board H.M.S. Inflexible at the bombardment of Alexandria, 11 July 1882. Appointed on the recommendation of the Lords of Admiralty, Engineer-in-Chief of the Turkish Navy, April 1911. Awarded the Order of the Medjidie, 2nd Class, by the Sultan of Turkey on 22 May 1914, for services as Chief of the Engineering Department in the Turkish Arsenal during the reorganisation of the Turkish Navy. Awarded the C.B.E. (military) on 11 June 1919 for services as Admiralty Engineer Overseer at the works of the Wallsend Slipway Company of Messrs. J. S. White & Co.

With an original Admiralty letter, dated 2 August 1955, detailing the medallic awards made to Engineer Captain Blake.
