M.C. London Gazette 18 February 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Though outflanked and short of water, he held his position with the greatest courage and detirmination.’

Robert Percival Young was born in Horsham, Suusex on 1 May 1890, the only child of the Rev. Arthur Frederick Young, of St. Luke’s Vicarage, Queen’s Park, Brighton, and Alice Maud Young, nee Hoy. He was was educated at St. John’s School, Leatherhead, 1900-06. An Actor by occupation and in America at the outbreak of war, he joined the 23rd Battalion London Regiment on 31 August 1914. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment on 7 December 1914 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 June 1916. Served with the M.E.F. at Gallipoli from September 1915 and later went to Egypt and Palestine. Lieutenant Young was killed in action near Jerusalem on 17 December 1917 and was buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery.
