Thomas Featherstone entered the Great War as a Private in the Gloucestershire Regiment. He later received a commission in the 11th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. Serving in Salonika, the regimental history records, ‘Much good work was done by the Battalion Intelligence Officer. A daring reconnaissance of the enemy position, going out alone by night and remaining all the next day under cover close to the enemy line, thereby gaining most valuable information. 2/Lt. T. Featherstone was awarded the M.C.’
Featherstone was mentioned in despatches for the action in which he was killed at Jumeaux Ravine, 25 April 1917. He was recommended for a higher award but the M.I.D. was the only option available that could be awarded posthumously. With copied research.
