‘For efficient handling of the sweep under difficult conditions and for his general good conduct and example to the crew.’
Pilgrim Edward Lockwood witnessed active service in the Great War as a Deck Hand in the Royal Naval Reserve - the whereabouts of his British War and Victory Medals remains unknown. But it was for his services in H.M. Trawler Norse, under Skipper C. S. Larter, M.B.E., D.S.C., that he was awarded his D.S.M., for hazardous minesweeping operations in 1940. He received his D.S.M. at a Buckingham Palace investiture held in September 1941, and died at Lowestoft, Suffolk, in October 1964, aged 66 years.
