A Second World War M.M. group of four awarded to Private F. Butter, Seaforth Highlanders - an escaped prisoner-of-war

Military Medal, G.VI.R. (2818056 Pte., Seaforth); General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine (2818056 Pte., Seaforth.); 1939-45 Star; War Medal 1939-45, these unnamed, mounted for wear, good very fine (4) £1200-1500

M.M. London Gazette 2 December 1941. ‘... in recognition of distinguished services in the field.’

Butters was captured at St. Valery on 12 June 1940. He escaped on 29 June 1940, after several recaptures and escapes he reached Madrid on 28 May 1941, left Gibraltar 4 July 1941 and finally arrived in Glasgow on 13 July 1941. He was interviewed by M.I.9 on 23 July 1941, at the time of the interview he was a Regular soldier with 10 years 8 months service.
