Uganda, Republic, heptagonal Pattern Shilling, 1987, unsigned, in nickel-plated steel, arms and supporters, rev. central value surrounded by sprigs, edge plain, 12h (KM. –). Brilliant, extremely rare £250-350
Provenance: Bt Format Coins.
Slabbed in CGS UK holder, graded UNC 90. Following a period of sustained high inflation, the coinage of Uganda was downsized in 1987 with the introduction of a new shilling, valued at 100 old shillings. The new coins were multi-sided, and this piece would appear to be a trial produced at the time but the design, and size, were later adopted for the issued 10 shillings (KM. 30). No patterns of the 1987 issue are recorded in KM
