Roman Imperial Coinage, Licinius I, Gold One-and-a-Half Solidus (9 Siliquæ) or Medallion (sometimes called a Festaureus), Trier, 313-15, licinivs pf avg, plain-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. vbiqve victores, Emperor standing between two captives, ptr in exergue, 5.32g/6h (RIC 5). Small scrape on cheek, otherwise extremely fine or better with some original mint bloom, extremely rare £25,000-30,000

Provenance: Found in Wiltshire [NARC-A1A418].

Three coins of this type are recorded of this type in
RIC, namely those in the British, Ashmolean and Hunterian Museums. This coin is struck from different dies to those employed to strike the other known examples. Medallions (large coins or multiples) like this were struck for the Emperor to distribute on special occasions
