18th Century Tokens, AYRSHIRE, Ayr, William Fullarton, Pattern Shilling, 1799, by J. Milton, in white metal, similar, edge plain, 4.84g/12h (Dykes, BNJ 2002, p.155, fig. 8; DH 5 bis II). No perceptible die rust so in all probability an original striking, extremely fine and very rare £250-350
Provenance: Baldwin Auction 18, 12-13 October 1998, lot 1907.
Believed to be the Cokayne specimen (Glendining Auction, 17 July 1946, lot 385), though this cannot now be proven. Sold with a copy of the metal composition analysis of this and other coins sampled by the Royal Mint in February 2006
