Thomas Henry George Heasman was born in Brighton, Sussex. A Milkman by occupation and a former member of the 3rd Royal Sussex Regiment (Militia), he attested for the Corps of Hussars at Brighton on 1 March 1900, aged 10 years, 10 months. Posted to the 10th Hussars, he served in South Africa, February 1901-September 1902 and in India, September 1902-May 1903. Serving at Home, Heasmen was posted to the 7th Hussars in December 1903, back to the 10th Hussars in April 1904 and to the 18th Hussars in August 1905. Re-posted to the 10th Hussars in September 1905, he served in India, September 1905-November 1912 and South Africa, November 1912-March 1913. As a Corporal he was discharged on 12 March 1913.
