Frederick William Wyatt was born in Todenham, Shipton, Gloucestershire. A Clerk by occupation, he attested for the 18th Hussars at Warwick on 6 April 1889, aged 18 years. With the regiment he served in India, March 1892-February 1897. Transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1897, he was recalled to the Colours in November 1899 and served in South Africa, November 1899-March 1902. He was reported missing in action at Shoeman’s Kloof, 4 September 1900. Having been captured he was recovered at Lydenberg, 19 September 1900. Wyatt was discharged, having completed his period of service, on 10 April 1902. With copied service papers and roll extracts. Additionally awarded the King’s medal with two clasps. In the published casualty roll he is listed as 2406 Private T. Wyatt of the 18th Hussars.
