Richard Raymont was born in West Hatch, Weston, Somerset. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Grenadier Guards at Bristol on 16 February 1898, aged 19 years, 6 months. With the 3rd Battalion he served in Gibraltar, September-October 1899; South Africa, October 1899-October 1900 and again, April-July 1902. With some copied service papers, roll extract and census research.
