Royal Humane Society, small silver medal (successful) (Philip Barnes, May 8, 1903) with silver buckle on ribbon, edge bruise, very fine £280-320
With original certificate of award on card, dated 15 May 1903, which gives details of the rescue:
‘.... Philip Barnes is justly entitled to the Honorary Silver Medal of this Society which is hereby awarded him for having at great personal risk on the 8th May 1903 gone to the rescue of two men who were in imminent danger of suffocation at the Grovelands Pottery Works, Reading, and whose lives he gallantly saved.’
