A pair of Prize Medals awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel C. F. Anderson, D.S.O., Royal Engineers
Royal Engineers, The Francis Fowke Memorial Prize Medal for Architecture, silver, the edge officially engraved, ‘2nd Lieut. C. F. Anderson, R.E., 1894’, 58mm.; and R.M.A. Woolwich and R.M.C. Sandhurst Athletics Prize Medal, bronze, the reverse engraved, ‘100 Yards, C. F. Anderson, 1892’, in its fitted E. Cecil Ford Anderson, who was born in December 1872, was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers direct from the R.M.A. Woolwich in July 1892. Having then witnessed active service in the Dongola Expedition of 1896 (Queen’s Medal; Egyptian Medal), he was advanced to Captain in July 1903 and to Major in July 1912, and was given the Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel and awarded the D.S.O. for his services in East Africa during the Great War (London Gazette 1 January 1918, refers). Anderson, who was also thrice mentioned in despatches, died in April 1946.
Sold with the recipient’s original D.S.O. warrant and related statutes, together with his M.I.D. certificates (3), two in respect of despatches from Lieutenant-General The Hon. J. C. Smuts, dated 8 May and 22 November 1916, and the third Lieutenant-General Sir J. L. van Deventer, K.C.B., dated 13 March 1918.
