Four: Sergeant R. Stibbs, Royal Engineers, who was killed in action in February 1916

Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (4056 Sapr. R. Stibbs, R.E.); 1914-15 Star (67627 Cpl. R. Stibbs, R.E.); British War and Victory Medals (67627 Sjt. R. Stibbs, R.E.), the first with edge bruise and a little polished, otherwise generally good very fine (4) £350-400

Ricahrd Stibbs was born at East Hendred, Berkshire, and, having witnessed active service in Somaliland in the 1902-04 operations (Medal & clasp), was placed on the Army Reserve.

Re-enlisting in the R.E. at Portsmouth in February 1915, aged 35 years, Stibbs went out to France in early September 1915 and was killed in action on 26 February 1916, while serving as a Sergeant in 126th Field Company, R.E. He left a widow and two children, and was buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres; sold with copied Great War service record.
