Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Central India (Corpl. Wm. Collins, 3rd Madrs. Eurpn. Regt.) slight edge bruising and contact marks, very fine £250-300
William Collins was born in Craig Parish, Kilkenny. A Nailer by occupation, he enlisted at Waterford on 10 January 1854, aged 19 years. With the 3rd Madras European Regiment he served in India, March 1854-April 1871. Was present at the battle of Banda, 19 April 1858 and was entitled to the Indian Mutiny Medal with clasp for ‘Central India’ (His service papers states entitlement to the clasp ‘Lucknow’). Collins was transferred to the Madras Horse Artillery in 1859. He was discharged at Woolwich on 1 June 1874 having completed his second period of service.
