William Ernest Hathaway Cheape was disembarked at Cairo with the 2/8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, at the end of August 1915, where his unit joined the Western Frontier Force for operations in response to the Senussi uprising and fought at the battle of Agagia. Subsequently awarded his M.M. for gallant deeds in the 2nd Battalion in France in 1918, he added the B.E.M. to his accolades for services as a Paperkeeper in the Family Division of the Royal Courts of Justice; sold with original Downing Street and Buckingham Palace letters in respect of the award of the B.E.M.
