Walter Swanson was born in Edgehill, Lancaster, lived in Glasgow and enlisted at Edinburgh. Serving in the 2nd Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers, he was killed in action on 28 October 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ler Touret Memorial.
