George Alfred Flynn was born in Bethnal Green, London. Living in Chatham, employed as a Labourer, he attested for the Militia on 20 November 1900, aged 18 years. With the 3rd Battalion The Buffs he served on St. Helena guarding Boer prisoners-of-war. For his services he was awarded the Q.S.A. without clasp.
Listing himself as an Electrician by occupation and a former member of the 3rd Battalion The Buffs, he then attested for the Royal Regiment of Artillery at Chatham on 20 April 1903, aged 20 years, 11 months. He served in Gibraltar, March-November 1904; Malta, November 1904-December 1905; and France, October 1914-March 1918. He entered the Great War serving with the 111 Howitzer Battery R.G.A. Was awarded the French Medaille Militaire (London Gazette 1 May 1917). He was discharged on 7 January 1919 and awarded the Silver War Badge.
With copied service papers, roll extracts and m.i.c. The Military Medal not confirmed; was not awarded the K.S.A. or the clasps to the Q.S.A.
