Three: Signalman W. Jones Royal Navy

William Jones was born in Everton, Liverpool on 26 March 1898. A Range Fitter by occupation, he joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 30 April 1914 and was advanced to Signal Boy in November 1914. Serving on the old battleship H.M.S. Hibernia, April 1915-April 1916, he was advanced to Ordinary Signalman in March 1916 and Signalman in March 1917. His service on Hibernia was curtailed on 23 April 1916 when he fractured his arm whilst coaling the ship. After recovering, he served on the light cruiser H.M.S. Dublin, August 1916-January 1920. Awarded Chevrons for 1915, 1916 and 1917 and paid a war gratuity of £29 together with sums of money from the Naval Prize Fund. Jones was invalided from the service on 17 March 1920.
Sold with a good selection of original documentation, including: Baptism Certificate (damaged); Certificate of Service; Certificate for Wounds and Hurts; Signal History Sheet; Certificate of Identity (2); letter re. leave, February 1919; pension document; telegram to his mother re. his injury; paper bearing German ship silhouettes. Also with his notebook as a Signalman on H.M.S. Dublin.
