Robert Denis Chenevix-Trench was born on 11 February 1899, the son of Philip Francis and Frances Angel Chevenix-Trench, of Dublin. He was educated at Winchester College and was commissioned into the K.R.R.C. from Sandhurst in December 1917. He served with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front between May-November 1918. It is noted that he distinguished himself at the Canal du Nord on 5 September 1918. After service in India he left the Army in 1923 and was employed as a Chartered Accountant. Recalled for the Second World War he served in the Rifle Brigade and was part of the ill-fated 18th Division in Singapore which fell to the Japanese. He remained in Japanese hands until the end of the war. After the war he was employed at the London Stock Exchange. Latterly living at Eaton Terrace, London, he died on 4 January 1986.
