Stephenas Shute was born in Devonshire on 13 August 1897. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the R.M.L.I. at Plymouth on 10 September 1915. Demobilized in March 1919. With copied service paper.

His Grandson, Trevor J. Shute, attained the rank of Sergeant in the R.A.F. and served as a Weapon Technician on Hawk, Harrier and Tornado aircraft. Served on tours in Belize, Ascension Island and in the Persian Gulf. Latterly employed as the Senior Non Commissioned Officer at R.A.F. Wittering, being employed in the day to day responsibility for explosive safety. After serving in the R.A.F. for 30 years, he left the service in December 2008.

With Valedictory Certificate, 1 December 2008; official letter from the C.O. R.A.F. Wittering detailing his services; photograph of the recipient inspecting bombs and five other photographs of his father and grandfather and others.
