Alfred Joseph Boughton was born in Leighton Buzzard, Buckinghamshire. A Carpenter by occupation, he attested for short service with the Imperial Yeomanry on 26 February 1901, aged 20 years, 7 months. He served with the 95th Company, 24th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry (Metropolitan Mounted Rifles) in South Africa, April-October 1901. He was discharged having been found medically unfit for further service on 18 November 1901. With copied service papers.
