John Rawlins enlisted in 1896 and served in the Second Boer War. Joined the Special Reserve in 1908. Awarded the Special Reserve L.S. & G.C. by Army Order January 1913; one of 28 medals to the 4th Battalion Notts & Derbys. Discharged due to sickness on 19 December 1914 and awarded the Silver War Badge - the sickness having arisen in October 1902. With copied discharge papers and roll extract.
