William John Standly Alderson served as a Naval Cadet aboard H.M.S. Agincourt in the Egypt campaign of 1882. Appointed Midshipman in January 1883 and Lieutenant in October 1890. Served on H.M.S. Melita in the Dongola expedition of 1896. Promoted to Commander in December 1902 and Captain in June 1906. Was Flag-Captain to the Vice-Admiral commanding the 4th battle Squadron in 1914. Promoted to Rear-Admiral in September 1919 and after retiring in 1923 was advanced to Vice-Admiral in January 1925. Awarded the C.B. in 1922. At the 1902 Naval Review he commanded H.M.S. Pilot and in the 1911 Review he commanded H.M.S. Isis. Vice-Admiral Alderson latterly lived in Ovingham House, Cardigan and died on 30 May 1946. With copied research.
