M.M. London Gazette 24 January 1946. The original recommendation states:
‘Lance-Bombardier Cameron, driver of an armoured O.P. in North-West Europe, has consistently shown the greatest skill and devotion to duty. In Normandy he drove a half-track into a minefield under fire to rescue wounded infantrymen.
On several occasions, when casualties have occurred in the O.P. party, he has manned the telephone and wireless set for long periods and on one occasion, although wounded in the leg and in great pain, refused to leave until his work was completed. At St. Pierra Le Vielle, when an enemy counter-attack neared Battalion H.Q., he left the safety of his A.O.P., went forward and took a leading part in beating off the enemy with a Bren gun.
His consistent bravery, cheerful acceptance of all hazards and total disregard for his own safety have always been a splendid inspiration to those around him.’
James Cameron was serving in 90th Field Regiment, R.A., at the time of the above cited deeds.
