Albert William Tubb was born in Broughton, Hampshire. A Porter by occupation, he attested for the 11th Hussars at London on 11 March 1890, aged 18 years, 10 months. With the 11th Hussars he served in India, December 1893-March 1899 and in Egypt, February 1901-April 1903. Promoted to Squadron Serjeant-Major in January 1908, he left the regiment to join the permanent staff of the Derbyshire Yeomanry later in the year; awarded the L.S. & G.C. 1910. Promoted to Warrant Officer Class II in January 1915. Served at home throughout the Great War, being discharged as no longer physically fit for war service on 17 September 1917. With copied service papers and other research including photocopied photographs of the recipient.
