James Freemantle was born in Winchester, Hampshire and enlisted at Winchester. Serving in the 1st Battalion Scots Guards he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. He was killed in action on 11 November 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
