James Gwynne was born in and enlisted at Stirling. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 11 November 1914. He was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 23 March 1916, aged 31 years. He was buried in the Cambrin Churchyard Extension, Pas de Calais. He was the son of John and Mary McGilvray Gwynne and husband of Janet Moodie Honeyman (formerly Gwynne), of 39 Upper Castle Hill, Stirling.
