Charles Swansborough was born in Barony, Glasgow on 18 February 1879. He enlisted into the A.& S. H. at Glasgow on 3 December 1906. Served in South Africa, February 1908-December 1912; Malta, January 1910-November 1912 and India, November 1912-October 1914. He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 19 December 1914. Postwar he served in India once more, March 1923-January 1924. Discharged at his own request on 10 April 1925. Employed as a Commissionaire he re-enlisted on 28 November 1939. Serving in the Gordon Highlanders, he was discharged on 16 July 1942. With Soldier’s Small Book; Soldier’s Service and Pay Book; Second and Third Class Certificates of Education; Character Certificate 1925 and Discharge Certificate 1925; with copied m.i.c.
