Three: Private A. R. Jefferies, 4th Regiment South African Infantry, late 6th Infantry Regiment, who died of wounds, France/Flanders, 20 July 1916

Star (Cpl., 6th Infantry); British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Cpl., 4th S.A.I.) name spelt ‘Jeffries’ on star, last two with official correction to ‘4th’, nearly extremely fine (4) £100-140

Aubrey Rodney Jefferies enlisted with the 6th Infantry Regiment on 8 August 1914. Transferred to the 4th S.A.I. on 11 August 1915. Served with ‘’ Company, 4th S.A.I. On 9 July 1916 ‘A’ & ‘C’ Companies were engaged in fighting for Trones Wood on the Somme. Jefferies was seriously wounded on 10 July 1916 and died of his wounds 10 days later. He was buried in La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie. With identity disk, three small photographs and copied service papers and casualty details.
