The Great War campaign pair awarded to 2nd Lieutenant C. G. V. Runnels-Moss, Royal Flying Corps, who claimed a brace of victories as a pilot in Sopwith Camels of No. 70 Squadron before himself being shot down and killed in December 1917

British War and Victory Medals (2 Lieut. C. G. V. Runnels-Moss), in their named card boxes of issue, together with the recipient’s Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Cyril Gower Vincent Runnels-Moss), extremely fine (3) £400-500

Cyril Gower Vincent Runnels-Moss first flew operationally as a pilot in No. 70 Squadron, the first R.F.C. unit to be equipped with Sopwith Camels, and he shared in the destruction of an enemy two-seater, shot down in flames with Lieutenant W. Gould, also of No. 70 Squadron, on 25 September 1917, in addition to being credited with driving another enemy aircraft down out of control on 9 November. However, he was himself shot down and killed on 5 December, after departing Poperinghe aerodrome on an offensive patrol around 12.50 hours - his aircraft came down in flames south-west of Westroosbeke.

Also see Lots 1133 and 1052 for the Great War medals awarded to his brothers, 2nd Lieutenant E. C. A. Runnels-Moss, R.F.A., who died of wounds in captivity in July 1918, and Lieutenant R. St. J. R. Runnels-Moss, R.F.A., late Warwickshire Yeomanry.
