Five: attributed to Serjeant J. T. Bray, Irish Regiment of Canada, died/killed, Italy, 6 August 1944

1939-45 Star; Italy Star; Defence Medal, Canadian issue in silver; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, with overseas clasp; War Medal 1939-45, Canadian issue in silver, all unnamed, good very fine and better (6) £100-140

John Thomas Bray was born in Bransford, England on 16 February 1907. He enlisted at Toronto, Ontario on 12 January 1940 and in June 1940 was advanced to Serjeant and posted to the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. During August 1940-June 1941 he served in Newfoundland, embarking for the U.K. in July 1941. Bray was promoted to Company Serjeant-Major in November 1941 but reverted to Corporal at his own request in February 1944, being advanced to Serjeant once more in April 1944, having earlier transferred to the Irish Regiment of Canada. Serving in Italy, Serjeant Bray died/was killed on 6 August 1944, aged 37 years. He was buried in the Caserta War Cemetery, Italy.

Sold with named condolence slip; named Certificate of Military Qualification (damaged), a copied photograph of his grave marker; together with copied service papers.
