Thomas McConkey was born in Belfast. A Weaver by occupation, he attested for the 2nd Regiment at Glasgow on 25 February 1825, aged 14 years. With the regiment he served in the East Indies, Scinde and Afghanistan. Suffered a wound to the testicles in India. Listed as being a habitual drunk and convicted on several occasions because of this, his character was listed as ‘Indifferent’ at the time of his discharge in May 1860. With copied discharge papers.
