Thomas William Harding was born in St. Pancras, London on 7 May 1872. Entering the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in May 1888, he was advanced to Boy 1st Class (Signals) in May 1889. He was promoted to Signalman in May 1890; Qualified Signalman in March 1891; and Leading Signalman in December 1891. Serving on H.M.S. Blanche, August 1892-March 1894, he was advanced to 2nd Yeoman of Signals in July 1893. During this time he served on the expedition against the Somalis of Jubaland, August 1893. Harding was further promoted to Yeoman of Signals in December 1898 and to Chief Yeoman of Signals in December 1899. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in June 1888. Discharged to a pension in 1912.
