Henry Bowers was born in Fareham, Hampshire on 6 October 1859 and was a Potter by occupation. He entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 27 October 1879. Serving on H.M.S. Alexandra, March 1880-November 1882, he was promoted to Stoker in February 1881 and was present at the battle of Alexandria, 11 July 1882. He was discharged ashore from H.M.S. Crocodile on 8 December 1884. With copied service paper and roll extract.
