Edmund Wright was born in Bekesbourne, Kent. A Gardener by occupation and a member of the 1st Volunteer Battalion East Kent Regiment, he attested for the Rifle Brigade at Canterbury on 18 November 1891, aged 19 years, 3 months. Posted to the 2nd Battalion in February 1892, then the 3rd Battalion in February 1893, he served in India, February 1893-September 1898. Invalided home, he was discharged. With copied service papers.
