D.C.M. London Gazette 1 May 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In a charge on the enemy’s position he was the first man to enter the enemy’s trenches, and when all his comrades had been driven back off the crest, he still remained, keeping up a continuous rate of rifle fire. He displayed exceptional courage and his coolness and devotion to duty afforded a splendid example to his comrades.’
Private William McGroarty, 1/5th Battalion Highland Light Infantry, entered the Balkan theatre of war on 2 July 1915. Awarded the 1914-15 Star trio of medals. He came from Glasgow. With copied m.i.c.
