Henry John Davies was appointed an Ensign without purchase in the 32nd Regiment on 7 April 1843. Promoted to Lieutenant by purchase in February 1846. In the Second Sikh War, Davies served at the siege operations before Mooltan, including the attack on the suburbs, the storm and capture of the city and the surrender of the fortress. He was present at the surrender of the fort and garrison of Cheniote and was at the battle of Goojerat.
