Frederic Fitzroy Gibbons was born in Barbados, West Indies on 12 November 1841. Served as a Cadet at the Royal Military College. Appointed an Ensign without purchase in the 11th Regiment on 4 July 1860. Promoted to Lieutenant by purchase in August 1864 and to Captain by purchase in July 1871. Promoted to Major in July 1881 and Lieutenant-Colonel in January 1888. Served with the regiment in the Cape Province, July 1861-April 1865; China, April 1865-May 1866; Cape Province, July 1866-October 1867, and India, February 1877-April 1881. He served with the Southern Afghanistan Field Force, July 1880-April 1881. With some copied service details.
