Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Ali Musjid (1478 G. Desterre, 10th Rl. Hussars) very fine £180-220

George Desterre was born at Albany Barracks, Parkhurst, Hampshire, and enlisted into the 10th Hussars at Canterbury on 10 September 1875, aged 14 years 2 months. He served in the East Indies from December 1877 and took part in the first phase of the Afghan campaign of 1878-79, including the assault and taking of Ali Musjid (Medal with clasp). He transferred to the 8th Hussars (No. 2459) on 1 December 1883 and served in India until November 1889. He was discharged on 31 December 1889. Sold with copied discharge papers.
