Brian Shaw, who was from Huddersfield, died on active service in Cyprus on 18 July 1958, while attached to the Royal Horse Guards; he was killed when his Scammell overturned on a road near Gastria and was buried in the British Military Cemetery at Wayne’s Keep, Cyprus; sold with a copied witness statement from a comrade:

‘I served with Brian Shaw, R.E.M.E., and was nearby when he lost his life. He was only 19 years old. He was a smashing north country lad and I often think of the good times we had together - his nickname in the unit was ‘Artie’ (after Artie Shaw, the American band leader). I often think of his family and wonder how they coped with the tragic news of his death. One thing you can be sure of: I will never forget him.’
