An ornate mameluke for an officer serving in India, by Ranken & Co. Calcutta, the slightly curved 84cm blade of flat-solid section, well etched with ornate scrolling foliate patterns and a vacant cartouche to either side, no royal cypher, ornate cast and chased copper-gilt cross-guard terminating in ornate quillons, the ecusson filled with a lotus blossom, foliate engraved back-strap, plain ivory grip plaques with no rosettes, complete with its copper-gilt scabbard with three large heavy mounts again cast and chased with foliate patterns and pierced through, two hanging rings, blade retaining almost all its original finish, gilding rather polished overall otherwise very good condition £300-350
